10:00 - Breakout Session A (45 min)
During this 45-minute breakout session, staff will participate in various activities related to our implementation of the National Common Core State Standards. Some staff will participate in department meetings and other educationally-appropriate activities. Generally speaking, most sessions will be jointly-led by teachers and building principals. Please follow your grade level or department schedule as listed on the Schedule of Events. Paraprofessionals, Title I, and Reading Recovery teachers & staff should attend with their assigned teacher/grade. Make sure you sign in at the beginning of this session to earn CPDUs. Click the Wikispaces link below to review Curriculum Documents used during the breakout sessions.
Breakout Session Highlights...
Wheel of Fortune: ELA & Math - English/Language Arts and Reading teachers (K-12) and Math teachers (K-12) will meet by grade levels/clusters to examine newly-developed Common Core-aligned curriculum documents and offer feedback in a "Plus/Delta" format. Hosted by your very own grade-level Vanna White & Pat Sajak! (Okay, not really. "Vanna" will be represented by the teachers who helped develop the documents, and a building administrator will fill in for "Pat.") (NOTE: K-5 teachers will attend both an ELA & a Math session with other grade-level teachers. Grades 6-12 teachers will attend by grade-level clusters/departments, or attend vertical [grades 6-12] department meetings.)
Download our "Wheel of Fortune" protocol to use with your staff.

Next Generation Science Standards - Science teachers (Grades 6-12) will take a collective first-look at the NGSS and develop plans to begin implementation in their own classrooms. This 2-session breakout will also include time for vertical alignment discussions and grade- or course-specific planning to begin implementing the NGSS, which are expected to be adopted as the Common Core Science Standards over the summer.
