Digging Deeper with Modelling through Next Gen Science Standards
Wondering how to get started with the Next Generation Science Standards? Teachers will be asked to try the approach of developing scientific models in the classroom. In doing so many of the other 8 scientific practices will naturally flow into lessons. Student engagement and retention of content should increase as more of the 8 scientific practices become the heart of the science lessons.
Google Basics: Chromebooks
Learn the basic care and feeding of student Chromebooks. We'll cover basic troubleshooting, app installation by students, Google Drive and "the cloud," as well as other topics that will help you feel comfortable using these devices as part of every day instruction. Lots of time will be allowed to answer you questions and practice your skills.
Google Sites
Take your classroom online using simple and free Google Sites, an easy-to-learn tool built into Google Apps for Education. Google Sites can help you develop an online presence for your classroom to post assignments, learning resources, and other classroom information to help keep students and parents informed.
Level Up with Google CLassroom
Learn how to set up and use Google Classroom with your students. This series will help you create & manage a digital classroom presence, distribute & collect electronic assignments & announcements, and grade/return assignments through this very simple to use interface.
New Teacher Learning Team
First & Second Year Teachers in our schools can attend meetings, roughly twice a month, to share successes and solve problems collaboratively. We will also learn about Dr. H. Wong's work in helping develop successful teachers through the study of his book, The First Days of School, and video series, The Effective Educator.

Assessment Tools in Google Apps for Education
This 3-part series will take you from designing a basic assessment using Google Forms, through the automatic scoring of assessments using the Flubaroo add-on, and to the exploration of other assessment tools that you can start using immediately for both formative & summative feedback on student learning.
Balanced Assessment
Participants will explore how all assessments have a place in the school setting, including the foundations, uses and quality of classroom assessments. This module utilizes ISBE's Balanced Assessment Framework. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how to evaluate and develop quality classroom assessments that can guide their instruction. This is a 4-Part Balanced Assessment series. The Close Reading Kit was designed to give administrators and teachers some background information on what is expected for student achievement with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in the area of Close Reading. Contents of the kit include: An introduction and definition of Close reading and the need for rigorous instruction across content areas; Presentation materials to build capacity at the school level; Research based articles supporting the strategy of Close reading; and Instructional resources responsive to the demands of the CCSS. Google CLassroom Basics
This 2-part series will give you all the tools you need to start using Chromebooks as an integral part of daily instructional activities. In the process, you'll move away from a paper-based classroom toward the goal of become nearly paperless! During this series, participants will set up a Google Classroom, manage student rosters, learn to use communication tools, assign/share activities & resources, and assess student learning.

Writing Matters
This resource-rich professional development workshop will provide educators with instructional practices to implement the New Illinois Standards for Writing. The Writing Matters website will be used to facilitate the various writing tasks necessary to meet the standards and prepare for PARCC. Participants will be able to define and describe the attributes of the 10 Writing Standards, explain how the Standards support the three types of writing, and identify mentor texts as a key resource.
