Increasing Student Engagement through Emotional UnderstandingThis presentation will focus on improving student engagement through focusing on all aspects of a student's social/emotional health. Many students feel that what they learn in school is not relevant to them and thus find it difficult to relate what they are learning to real life contexts. This can result in students questioning the importance of what they're learning and lead to disengagement. By adding basic aspects of choice theory to your curriculum, students can feel empowered and engaged. A discussion of William Glasser's "Choice Theory" and "Solution-Focused Counseling" will be included. Specific classroom interventions will be provided to help teachers deal with the ever-changing emotional needs of our students.
